Bata Children’s Programme India team presented a big hall for having mid day meals in a comfortable and hygiene manner to the children of the school in Gurgaon, adopted under BCP. The Indian Government provides free mid day meals to the government school children across all age groups. However, since the inception of the school, about 25 years back, the school premise didn’t have any designated place wherein the children can sit and have their meals. The girls were not allowed to eat their meals inside their classrooms; hence they used to sit outside the classrooms on the floor to have their meals every day. The school authorities used to wash utensils in open area near the playground as there was no designated place.
Taking the serious situation into consideration, BCP team decided to renovate 2 big rooms, which were lying vacant since 25 years. The renovation happened along with provision of new cafeteria furniture and separate area to wash utensils. The renovated rooms were inaugurated on the 22nd May through the Chief Guest Mr. Ram Kumar Phalswal, District Elementary Education Officer (DEEO).
Speaking on the occasion, the DEEO said , “ I had come to visit this school about 6 years back when the whole premise was in a deplorable condition. This is the first time that i have visited this school since the time Bata has adopted and I am glad that i was invited today for the inauguration as i got a chance to see what tremendous improvement Bata has done. This kind of facility (mid day meal rooms) cannot be found in any of the 397 government primary schools in the whole District. Eventhough other corporates also work in schools under their social responsibility, however their work cannot match the quality level of Bata’s work. I am very pleased to see the kind of work Bata has been doing and i would share this work with my seniors in the government department and showcase at various platforms. We would like Bata to take up more government schools for development and we are ready to provide every support.”
